Adam Lowy basically grew up on the back of a moving truck. Lowy’s Moving Service has been moving lives and furniture in New Jersey for nearly a century, and Adam spent plenty of summers helping his dad and uncle with the family business. Every job was different, but if there was one thing every customer had it common it was that they all threw out a lot of stuff when they moved. Clothes, furniture, electronics…you name it, people tossed it. But it was the food that really bothered Adam. Sometimes a box stuffed with enough food to stock a pantry would be left by the curb. Other times it was simply a stray can of soup forgotten in the back of a cupboard. Either way, it always felt like a minor tragedy that perfectly good food was going to waste. Recognizing an opportunity to make a difference in his community, Adam decided to take action. In 2009, he and his family started asking customers if they had any food they would like to donate to the local food bank. After just one month, he had collected 300+ pounds of food. Adam wondered, “If one company could make this kind of impact, what could an entire network of moving companies do?

His passion for helping people navigate the often stressful process of moving inspired him to pass down his knowledge to the next generation.
Enter Shawn, one of nine siblings, each raised with the same values of hard work and dedication instilled by their parents. Growing up in a bustling household, Shawn learned early on the importance of teamwork and cooperation. Inspired by his father’s work ethic, Shawn eagerly embraced the opportunity to follow in his footsteps.
Together, Bob and Shawn embarked on a journey to turn their shared dream into reality. Drawing upon Bob’s wealth of experience and Shawn’s fresh perspective, they laid the groundwork for what would soon become Lifetime Moving & Storage.
For Bob, the decision to start this venture with his son was about more than just business. It was an opportunity to pass on his legacy and instill in Shawn the same values that had guided him throughout his career.
For Shawn, being part of such a large family taught him the value of community and collaboration. Working alongside his father, he was determined to uphold the reputation of excellence that Bob had worked so hard to build.
As they built their company, Bob and Shawn began to envision its future. They dreamed of eventually passing down the company to Shawn’s children, ensuring that their family’s legacy would continue for generations to come.
